Rarely seen and always shocking - Luis Suarez's chomp has put another biting moment in the history books. Here are some of the sport's most notorious nibbles in pictures.
Not quite a bite but close nonetheless was Oliver Kahn's moment with Borussia Dortmund's Heiko Herrlich in 1999. In the same match the goalkeeper also launched a Kung-Fu-style kick on Stephane Chapuisat. Kahn said later he was just getting rid of pent-up pressure.
In 2006, then-Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe bit West Ham's Javier Mascherano during a Premier League match. The diminuative England international managed to escape punishment for what his manager Martin Jol called a "comical nibble."
Luis Suarez number one: the appetizer
Suarez, then of Ajax, was given a 7-game ban for his first famous bite on the shoulder of PSV Eindhoven's Otmar Bakkal back in 2010. The action earned him the nickname "The Cannibal of Ajax."
Luis Suarez number two: the main course
Perhaps the most-obvious of all biting infractions was Suarez's chomp on Branislav Ivanovic. The Chelsea defender is seen here reenacting the 2013 incident. Suarez later apologized for his "inexusable behavior."
