Since the financial crisis, Greece has been beefing up its tax collection system: widespread evasion and fraud means its tax yield is way too low. If everybody paid what they should, revenue could rise by about ten billion euros a year.
Most people will stare blankly when they hear of the "cum-ex" scandal, but the latest reports are that this tax evasion scandal is a continental-wide one, robbing taxpayers of at least €55 billion of state money.
The ECHR has ruled that Russia violated multiple rights of Sergei Magnitsky — an auditor who died a decade ago while in pretrial detention. The court said the poor medical care he received led to his death.
Putin nemesis Bill Browder was arrested then released in Madrid over a Russian Interpol warrant. Browder accused Moscow of abusing Interpol's warrant system.
