For years a 9-meter-high monument in Paris by Jewish sculptor Clara Halter has been the subject of dispute. On the Mur pour la Paix, the word "peace" is written in 49 languages. Local residents and the district mayor want it dismantled.
The 3-meter-high glass and metal barrier is both bulletproof and strong enough to stop a truck on a suicide mission. France remains on a state of high alert since a series of terror attacks in 2015 left hundreds dead.
France is gearing up for the national Bastille Day holiday and the World Cup final against Croatia. Authorities said they would deploy a massive police presence to ensure "peace of mind" during the festivities.
