After Israel's alleged airstrikes on Syria, tensions between Damascus and Tel Aviv are threatening to escalate.
Russia has carried out its first airstrikes in southwest Syria in support of an Assad regime offensive. The battlefield space is one of the most geopolitically complex and explosive in the seven-year war.
Since a major offensive by the Assad regime in southwestern Syria, thousands more Syrians are attempting to escape the disaster zones – but neighboring Jordan and Israeli-occupied Golan Heights have shut their borders.
During a visit to Moscow, Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu had a "direct and forthright" talk on Syria with Russia's Vladimir Putin. Recently, Russia's ally Syria blamed Israel for launching air strikes on Damascus.
A regime offensive in southern Syria has threatened to displace thousands near the Jordanian border. The US has warned Damascus of upending a ceasefire in the area, saying it will take "firm and appropriate measures."
