Energy-storing Gas - The Natural Gas Grid as a Battery

January 5, 2015

The idea behind Power to Gas is to convert renewable electricity to methane using carbon dioxide, store it in the gas infrastructure and then use it in a variety of areas. Methane from renewable electricity can be used equally in mobility, industrial, heat supply and electricity generation applications.

Researchers at the Technical University of Munich are working on ways to improve the process. They have already tested 250 different catalysts. The goal is to develop a large-scale methane production process that is both cheap and efficient.
