Governments across Africa have used pandemic measures to clamp down on their opponents and the media, Amnesty International found in its latest annual report. The pandemic has also exacerbated conflicts.
The World Health Organization said researchers were examining samples from the patient for potential links to the previous outbreak. WHO has traced at least 70 contacts to the new case.
Several African countries have banned the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine, citing possible side effects. The move follows similar measures by European states — but it could seriously hinder Africa's vaccine rollout.
