Day Zero - Austria and Bhutan
October 14, 2021Author and mountaineer Nils Bökamp travels to Bhutan, discovering breathtaking stillness and pristine natural landscapes. Nils has come looking for answers: How can people maintain both quality of life and environment sustainability? In the capital, Thimphu, he meets happiness expert Julia Kim, who explains Bhutan's strategy.
Nils then returns to a place of childhood memories, the glacial world of the Grossglockner mountain in Austria. The still-imposing landscape reveals dwindling ice and other effects of climate change.
Many of us are drawn to wilderness and untouched nature, especially at a time when habitats and the climate are changing. But how long will these pristine places be around? We are now at a turning point in history. Do we save the planet for the future, or continue to pursue economic growth at the expense of the environment?
