Winding alleys and pointed towers create a Christmas atmosphere on the Vltava River. Prague is festively decorated and lures visitors with lots of sweets and the lighting of the lanterns on the Charles Bridge.
The Christmas Garden is being held for the third time in the Botanical Garden in Berlin-Dahlem. This year the event will also take place in Stuttgart at Wilhelma and in Dresden in the garden of Schloss Pillnitz.
Despite heavy rain, thousands of Czech and Slovak troops marched through Prague in the city's biggest military parade in decades. The event celebrates a century since the founding of now long-dissolved Czechoslovakia.
