Every year, DW recognizes outstanding efforts to uphold the principles of an independent and free press. This year's recipient of the DW Free Speech Award goes - unusually - to reporters in the US: the White House Correspondents' Association.
The president of the White House Correspondents' Association, Jeff Mason, has been given the 2017 DW Freedom of Speech Award. Mason said he hopes it will "shed light on the importance of press freedom around the world."
