There is still no wireless internet in Cuba. This has not stopped the head of state, Miguel Diaz-Canel, from taking to the digital world with his Twitter account. But his online propaganda is not going unchallenged.
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media can drive social change or even spark revolutions. Women around the world are using the Internet as a weapon in their struggle for equal rights.
The European Commission said it "cannot negotiate forever" and plans fine social media companies that do not comply with stricter consumer laws. Facebook and Twitter have until the end of 2018 before sanctions kick in.
The social networking company has said the bug related to direct messages between users and businesses. Less than 1 percent of Twitter's more than 330 million monthly active users are believed to have been affected.
