The Bridge of Minor Miracles

June 22, 2021

Part of the main artery of Kenya's capital, Nairobi, this bridge is many things to many people. Vegetables, a new bed, a plate of cheap soup - even a new hairstyle: You can get all that, and more, on the bridge.

But now, it is slated for demolition.

A lifeline for thousands of people, the "bridge of small wonders” depicted in the film connects the capital’s poor Kangemi district with an affluent area. Back in 2015, filmmaker Sabine Bohland observed life on the bridge. She met three people whose lives revolved around it: soup cook Mogaka, vegetable seller Jacky and a student, Saidi.
Five years on, in the midst of the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic, she wanted to know what had become of the three Kenyans. Have the dreams they had five years ago come true?
