With more than one million visitors a year, Chile’s ski resorts are a popular winter destination. But many of the country’s ski resorts are struggling because of too little snow. Scientists blame climate change.
A record arctic air mass will remain over the central and eastern United States over the next several days. Several people have died in the dangerously low temperatures, which have now moved to the Northeast.
The 66 pupils and their teachers have been snowed in for days on the Kasberg mountain. They had to be airlifted out amid record-breaking and deadly snowstorms.
Communities have been cut off, travel disrupted and more avalanches set off as a fresh wave of wintry weather hit southern Germany and Austria. The weight of the snow is a major danger.
Meters more snow are forecast to fall on southern Germany and Austria over the next week. A snow plow driver died in Germany when his vehicle fell into an icy river.
