Every year around July 12, members of the conservative Protestant Orange Order march to commemorate the victory of the forces of Protestant King William of Orange over those of deposed King James II of England in 1690. The Orangemen wear orange sashes and black bowler hats. Catholics see the marches as provocative and violent outbreaks are not infrequent.
