Qatar is the richest company in the world per capita. Its wealth comes from resources, mainly natural gas. Some of its profits are invested in German companies. Qatar's neighboring countries have accused it of funding terrorist organizations.
Qatar is leaving OPEC. The Gulf country's government has said the move is mainly for economic reasons, but dramatically worsened ties with some of its neighbors also played a significant role.
The Gulf nation of Qatar's new energy minister said that his country will leave OPEC effective January of 2019. He said that he had informed OPEC of his decision ahead of his announcement.
As Qatar leaves OPEC, a Troika of Saudi Arabia and non-OPEC members Russia and the US are likely to press ahead with their own interests. So, are the days of OPEC dominance numbered?
The German decision to back the construction of a liquefied natural gas terminal comes after the US pressured Europe to buy more of its gas. There is no guarantee a German LNG terminal would exclusively import US gas.
