The Republic of Maldives in the Indian Ocean is a tiny nation comprised of 26 coral atolls making up more than a thousand islands. Like other areas along the coast of the Indian subcontinent, most of the country sits no more than a meter above water. But as sea levels are expected to rise, its 350,000 inhabitants face displacement.
