France has indicated that the use of military force in Libya could be imminent. The French Ambassador to the UN, Gerard Araud, said he expected a military intervention to be launched shortly after the Paris summit on the situation in Libya, set to take place later this Saturday. The United States and others have accused Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi of continuing to carry out attacks on rebel-held areas, despite an earlier commitment to observe a ceasefire. Within the last hour, there have been reports of explosions in the rebel stronghold of Benghazi - thought to be from an attack by Gaddafi's fighter jets.
