Europe agrees war damages commission for Ukraine

The "International Claims Commission" will assess damage caused by Russia and work out adequate compensation. Some estimates suggest half a trillion dollars may be needed to rebuild Ukraine after the war.

More than 30 countries have backed a new international commission to compensate Ukraine for damage caused by Russia's invasion. The fund aims to cover hundreds of billions of dollars in losses to infrastructure and housing. While financing remains unclear, Kyiv insists any peace deal must include reparations. Talks continue as Ukraine signals readiness to drop NATO ambitions for US security guarantees.
