A European blacklist of tax havens – that's what the EU ministers of finance adopted today. Tax havens have been again in the center of discussion since the Paradise Papers were leaked.
Music star Shakira is the latest high-profile individual targeted by Spanish prosecutors for tax evasion. Officials allege she failed to pay €14.5 million ($16.3 million) in taxes.
Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire said France would give the EU until March to come up with a deal on taxing US internet giants. If it fails, France will go ahead and impose its own taxes in 2019.
The two countries want tech giants such as Google and Facebook to pay tax on digital revenue. But the idea faces opposition from a large contingent of the EU.
Finance ministers from the European Union's member states have agreed to measures to help the eurozone better fight against a financial crisis. The reforms stopped short of creating a separate eurozone budget.
