The Muslim festival Eid is being celebrated in many parts of the world. It marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. A look at how people celebrate around the world.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said operations against Taliban rebels will halt until the Muslim fasting season ends. Fighting against other militant groups, including "Islamic State," will continue.
It's not immediately clear whether the militant group has accepted Kabul's call for a truce during the Muslim holiday. The "conditional ceasefire" follows a three-day truce during the Eid al-Fitr holiday in June.
Several people have been killed in a second suicide bombing in as many days in eastern Afghanistan during celebrations for Eid al-Fitr. A ceasefire between the Afghan government and militants has entered its third day.
Syria's government has cited "national reconciliation" for the release of 672 prisoners, including political detainees. Their freedom came ahead of the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr on Sunday.
