Well, another perennial issue working the minds of German policy-makers at the moment is juvenile crime. The latest statistics are sobering: 43 percent of all violent crimes in Germany are committed by people under 21. That negative trend has put the spotlight on what some politicians call lax sentencing ... and on the time lag between crime and punishment: it often takes months for courts to deal with cases of juvenile delinquency. Some judges are now speeding up court proceedings, to make sure young criminals make the link between their crime and the consequences.
