Wolfsburg were never up to much until they found Felix Magath. He harnessed his own brand of hard-man coaching genius to the financial backing of Volkswagen to help the club break out of years of mediocrity and mount one of the most shocking title campaigns ever in 2008-9.

Magath's exit to Schalke sent Wolfsburg sinking back into mid-table mediocrity, and eventually toward relegation. With the club's top-flight survival on the line, VW turned to the superman it knew best. Magath, of course - who by luck, had quit at Schalke just days earlier.

This season Magath should have to do little more than get back to mid-table to satisfy the board, a task at which he's proved himself more than capable in the past.

Fun fact: Wolfsburg was founded in 1945, making it the youngest of the first-division clubs.
