In an attempt to oust Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from power, opposition leader Juan Guaido is trying to persuade the military to change sides. Maduro blames the US for the country's unrest, which has resulted in one death and many injuries.
Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza has described the US' decision to invoke a defense pact as "illegal" and "dangerous." Washington has said they were left with little choice due to "bellicose" moves from Venezuela.
