Vietnam: Animals under Threat

Bile from the gall bladders of bears is used in traditional medicine; the meat of rare snakes is considered a delicacy. The more prosperous people in Vietnam become, the more wild animals are hunted. Wealthy city-dwellers consume what has been caught illegally in the country's national parks.

Now many Vietnamese are committing themselves to protecting the country's wildlife. The NGO Education for Nature - Vietnam is campaigning to reduce consumer demand for the meat of wild animals. The WWF Vietnam is training former poachers to be forest rangers in Quang Nam province's Saola Nature Reserve.
