A last minute cast change colored the opening of Germany's prestigious Wagner music festival.
A quieter mezzoforte before the fortissimo of the Beethoven year 2020: Beethovenfest director Nike Wagner told DW about this year's program, whose motto is "Moonlight."
Next year, superstar Anna Netrebko will sing in Bayreuth. But as the current season begins, visitors are looking forward to a new production of Wagner's "Lohengrin" — including a stage set designed by Neo Rauch.
He has mastered many roles across Germany, including performances in Wagner operas. But this year, Polish baritone Tomasz Konieczny celebrates his first appearance at Bayreuth – and hopefully not his last.
