Opposition leaders in Ukraine have called for a nationwide strike after police carried out a raid on protesters in Kiev.
People in the tiny north Caucasus region are taking to the streets over a secretive land treaty with Chechnya. Unlike protests elsewhere in Russia, the demonstrations are supported by the elite – and even the police.
Among those arrested were several high-ranking officers on active duty. The move comes shortly after 15,000 soldiers and police officers were fired under a state of emergency.
There were arrests and injuries after Catalan separatists threw colored powder, ran at police lines and clashed with a pro-police rally. The Barcelona events came just days before the anniversary of the referendum.
