On the Republican side, John McCain surged ahead of his rivals Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee +++LM-REIN+++ McCain took primary wins in several big states, including California and New York. Mitt Romney is carrying 7 states including Massachussetts and Utah. Mike Huckabee pulled off a strong comeback to emerge as the conservative alternative to McCain in the southern states. Again, though, it is not the number of STATES which are relevant here - it's the number of delegates, which varies from state to state...
