Eurozone finance ministers in Brussels have backed Spain's candidate to become the next vice president of the European Central Bank. The decision was expected after Ireland withdrew its candidate for the post.
The European Commission has recommended that France be removed from a list of member states with excessive deficits. The move came on the back of a raft of economic measures adopted by Paris to reduce public spending.
The economic outlook for both the eurozone and the EU as a whole is increasingly upbeat, says the European Commission. Although concerns remain, the crisis of recent years seems to be finally over.
