Serbia's students lead nationwide anti-corruption protests

Once focused on her medical studies, Jelena Popadic is now interested in politics and the future of her country. Together with others, she created a movement in Novi Sad that has grown nationwide. The collapse of a train station roof sparked protests, serving as a symbol of corruption and government failure. Jelena often organizes demonstrations and is aware of the risks involved. Serbian security focres occasionally employ brutal force against opposition activists, and Jelena has also been beaten. In the meantime, workers and farmers have joined the student protests. Farmer Dragan Radivojevic says, "The students have opened our eyes. They are giving us hope that things will get better." The willingness to stand up for a new Serbia is growing.
