Romania takes over EU presidency amid rule of law fears

On January 1, Romania takes over the EU's rotating presidency, which it will hold for six months. For some time now, the Romanian government has been at odds with the EU regarding the rule of law, separation of powers and corruption. There have been demonstrations time and again because the Romanian government wants to protect politicians.
