Rio in Pictures- Day 14
We have picked out the best photos of the Games, irrespective of the importance of the event. The daily galleries are full of thrills, spills and lots more besides.
Inconsolable
Brazil's top female footballer Marta (l.) cannot hide her disappointment after the hosts lost the bronze medal match to Canada 2-1. Canada had also finished third in London 2012.
Anguished
Germany's Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum hits the first fence with her horse Fibonacci during the individual final of the showjumping. She failed to medal as 58-year-old Briton Nick Skelton, in his seventh Olympics, took gold.
Up and Down
Australia's BMX rider Sam Willoughby (l.) takes all three wins in the group but ends up without a medal. American Connor Fields instead takes the gold in a flying finish to the race.
Wheely tough
Dutchman Niek Kimmann flew through the air and crashed during the BMX final. He lost his wheel off his crumpled bike and decided to run to the finish. He was 70 seconds behind his compatriot Jelle von Gorkom, who took silver.
Great Header
Sabina Ashirbayeva of Kazakhstan could easily be scoring a goal in football. Instead she was wowing the crowds in rhythmic gymnastics. Strong competition from the Russians meant she had little chance of a medal.
Hole-in-one
China's Xiyu Lin became the first woman to card a hole-in-one in Olympic golf. The 20-year-old managed the feat on a 141-yard hole. Women's golf is making its Games return in Rio after 116 years away.
Heading for Glory
Kicks to the head count double in taekwondo. Poland's Piotr Pazinski (l.) has a go at Cheikh Sallah Cisse of the Ivory Coast, who goes on to win his country's first ever Olympic gold in the 80 kg class.
