Reporter - Great Britain: Students Opposed to Brexit

June 18, 2016

The Brexit issue has polarized Britain. The recent murder of a Labour MP in broad daylight has left the country in a state of shock. Cambridge University student Ben Gallant is in the pro-EU camp. He and his fellow-activists want to bring some much needed objectivity into the increasingly heated debate.

Ben Gallant is a European at heart. The Cambridge University student sees EU membership as a guarantee for a modern, cosmopolitan Britain. And that’s why he’s become politically active, for the first time in his life. He is lobbying against Brexit - the movement to get Britain to leave the European Union. It’s an issue that has polarized the country for months. The murder of a Labour MP in broad daylight on Thursday has left the country in a state of shock. With the referendum now imminent, polls put the leave camp slightly ahead. Ben Gallant is therefore going door to door and canvassing on social media in an effort to bring sober arguments and objectivity into the increasingly heated Brexit debate. Will his efforts help to turn around the vote, and at least convince friends and neighbors that their country needs to remain in the EU?
