Millions of Muslims around the world have begun celebrating Islam’s holiest month. It is a time of reflection and sacrifice. Central to this holy month is fasting.
After several unsuccessful attempts, Tariq Ramadan was granted bail by a French court. Ramadan is accused of raping two French women, to whom he sent hundreds of texts that detailed violent sexual fantasies.
Inger Stoejberg received backlash after suggesting Muslims spend the month of Ramadan away from work. Experts and businesses fired back that there was no evidence of fasting affecting work safety.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said operations against Taliban rebels will halt until the Muslim fasting season ends. Fighting against other militant groups, including "Islamic State," will continue.
