Racing wheelchairs at the Paralympics

When Alhassane Baldé was born, no one expected him. His twin brother had been born minutes earlier, and no one realized that his mother was carrying not one but two babies. That is why Alhassane's birth proceeded so chaotically that he ended up with irreversible damage to his spine that left him paralyzed from the chest downwards. Alhassane's native Guinea did not offer much future for a child with a disability. His uncle, who was an immigrant in Germany, adopted the boy and brought him to Düsseldorf. Here he became one of the world's best wheelchair racers. Now he is dreaming of a medal at the Tokyo Paralympics.  A report by Thomas Klein
