Puma Hires McQueen to Design Shoes

British designer Alexander McQueen has agreed to create a range of sports shoes for the German manufacturer Puma, the company has announced. The collection, for men and women, will be unveiled during women's fashion week in London this September and will go on sale next year, a statement said."I have always had a great passion for trainers," said McQueen, who has designed for Givenchy and Gucci. McQueen is just the latest designer to step outside the rarefied world of haute couture to bring a new twist to sportswear. Puma has in the past used French design guru Philippe Starck and Japanese designer Yasuhiro Mihara to create shoe lines and supermodel Christy Turlington has created a collection of clothes for yoga. Its rival Adidas has worked with British designer Stella McCartney and Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto.
