Many athletes take magnesium to prevent muscle cramps, but research shows it rarely helps. Experts say cramps are mostly caused by fatigue, heat, and tight muscles — not magnesium levels. A balanced diet, getting enough fluids, and the right electrolytes like sodium and potassium matter far more. Training to build fatigue resistance also helps. And if a cramp hits? Pickle juice may stop it within minutes by calming overactive motor neurons!
