Lisicki advances to semi-final
July 2, 2013In little over an hour, Lisicki cleared the path to her second Wimbledon semi-final match, beating opponent Kaia Kanepi 6-3, 6-3.
The German, ranked 23 in the world, now faces world number four Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in the next round.
Lisicki dominated Tuesday's match until the third game of the second set when she double-faulted three times, losing her service game. But the German favorite came back swiftly, winning four of the next five games.
Following the match, she told reporters she was very happy about the outcome on Tuesday and looked forward to the semi-final.
"It was an amazing match yesterday, but I had to make sure that I had calmed down and was ready for today," Lisicki said, referring to her victory over Serena Williams.
"This is a game that I love so much, I want to make sure it stays that way. I'm just out to win every match," she added.
Lisicki was playing in her fourth Wimbledon final in five years on Tuesday, in 2011 she also won in the last eight to proceed to the semifinal.
