Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen has called for German troop deployment in Afghanistan, Mali and Iraq to be extended for a year. The current mandates are due to expire before the end of January.
The bodies of two German soldiers whose helicopter had crashed in Mali have been repatriated. The two deaths marked the first fatalities in Germany's mission in west Africa.
