German-Turkish film director Fatih Akin's love story "Head-On" has been nominated in five categories for the 2004 European Film Awards. The film, which won the Berlin Film Festival's top prize this year, is competing for "Best European Film" against such films as British director Mike Leigh's "Vera Drake" and Spanish colleague Pedro Almodovar's "Bad Education." Akin himself has been nominated for the best European director and screenwriter awards, and his leading actors, Sibel Kekilli and Birol Ünel, are up for the best European actress and actor prizes. German actor Daniel Brühl, the star of "Good Bye, Lenin!", has also been nominated for best actor for his role in "The Edukators." The winners will be announced by the European Film Academy on Dec. 11 in Barcelona.
