Tensions are rising along Guinea's borders with Liberia and Sierra Leone as both neighbors accuse Guinean troops of crossing into their territory and attempting to seize land, a claim Conakry denies, insisting its recent military deployments are purely defensive and aimed at protecting its territorial integrity. The dispute has prompted West Africa's regional body ECOWAS to step in amid fears of escalation in a region already marked by long‑standing boundary grievances. As leaders from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone open diplomatic talks, uncertainty remains over whether these efforts can defuse the standoff and stabilize the border communities caught in the middle.
