Bombardier has received an order for nine locomotives and 78 double-deck coaches worth $172 million (137 million euros) from Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen (LNVG), the public transportation company for the western German state of Lower Saxony, the Canadian manufacturer announced Tuesday. The coaches will be built at the company's Görlitz plant, while the electric locomotives will be produced at its Kassel facilities for delivery between May 2006 and the end of 2007. The new order follows two previous requests by LNVG in 2001 and 2003 for 106 double-deck coaches and 18 electric locomotives. Since 1993, Bombardier has sold over 1,300 double-deck coaches to Deutsche Bahn. They have also recently become more popular with international customers in Israel, Denmark and Luxembourg, the company reported.
