From villain to spy — may bedbugs help to solve crimes?

Bedbugs may soon help catch criminals. In Malaysia, a university lab has found that the pests retain human DNA for up to 45 days after feeding. By analyzing short-tandem-repeat (STR) markers in the blood, scientists can reveal gender, hair, eye, and skin color. Since bedbugs stay near where they bite – often in mattress seams or headboards – they  may become vital forensic tools, turning “enemies in the bed” into silent witnesses.
