Football player Hakeem Al-Araibi has been released from custody in Thailand, after the country of his birth, Bahrain, withdrew a request to have him extradited. This comes after an international campaign for his release.
Thailand has said Australia is to blame for the arrest of refugee footballer Hakeem al-Araibi in Bangkok. Australia has scrapped plans for a warm-up match in Thailand over al-Araibi's detention.
The Bahraini footballer, who has refugee status in Australia, was arrested in November while on honeymoon in Thailand. Bahrain had attempted to extradite him for a crime he claims he didn't commit.
A Thai court has denied bail to the Bahraini football player with refugee status in Australia who was detained by Thai authorities as he arrived in Bangkok for his honeymoon. He will await an extradition hearing in jail.
The wife of jailed refugee footballer Hakeem al-Araibi has written a personal plea to Thailand's prime minister to send him back to Australia, warning that "time is running out" as he fights extradition to Bahrain.
