First 'Wise Woman' Joins Economic Advisory Body

Beatrice Weder di Mauro officially joined the ranks of Germany's so-called "Economic Wise Men," the German Council of Economic Experts, on Wednesday. The 39-year-old is both the first woman and the first foreigner to be appointed to the expert commission whose five members are charged with advising the government and parliament on economic policy issues. Weder is a professor of economics and has taught at the universities of Mainz and Basel. She has also worked for the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Weder was born in Switzerland and has both Swiss and Italian citizenship.
