Reporters Without Borders has put Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on its "Predator of Press Freedom" list of 35 heads of state, extremist organizations, secret services and criminal groups.
Across Europe and much of the world, journalists are facing increased hostility, but progress in Africa is a sign for hope. That's according to the latest World Press Freedom Index compiled by Reporters Without Borders.
CHP chief Kemal Kilicdaroglu was beset upon by protesters at a soldiers funeral. President Erdogan's AKP has come under fire for promoting partisan discord.
President Erdogan has said that a margin of only 13,000 votes is too few for either side to claim victory in Istanbul's mayoral contest. The vote in Ankara has already been handed to the opposition CHP party.
The result had been under review after President Erdogan and his AKP party cried foul. The president has called for a rerun of the vote, yet it is unclear if the election board will accede to that wish.
