Invasive algae kills off corals in Hawaii

Climate change warms up the oceans and makes sea water more acidic - two conditions corals cannot stand for long. Stress causes the corals to turn white and die - an event which is called bleaching. Coral reefs in Hawaii are no exception. But in addition to climate change, corals in Hawaii are threatened by something else: invasive algae.
