But few are in the mood to celebrate. The film industry is in crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic. Is this the end of an era, or are there glimmers of hope? Arts.21 takes stock.

Many cinemas give the impression that they’re closed for good. Where normally new films would be advertised, there’s now emptiness and eerie silence. But producer and writer Alfred Holighaus is certain the industry will survive the pandemic.

TThe Berlin International Film Festival should be taking place right now. Due to the coronavirus, it was postponed and split in two. Along with a virtual meeting in March, there’s a public film festival slated for June. Is this a recipe for survival?

Helena Zengel’s Hollywood Breakthrough

The coronavirus hasn’t taken the fun out of acting for Helena Zengel. The 12-year-old Berlin native is known for her role in "System Crasher." The young actress stars in the new Netflix film "News of the World" alongside Tom Hanks—a very impressive Hollywood debut!
