China has become even more powerful since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Yet the country remains difficult to understand. Not least because its government continues to restrict access to reliable information.

The leadership in Beijing controls the country's communication systems. Official statistics and government statements are often misleading - and Chinese citizens who speak up can be arrested and jailed. Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei currently lives in exile. In this report, he discusses his experience with censorship, and the policies of the ruling Communist Party.
