Can You Really Judge a Man By His Car?

DW staff (ktz)August 10, 2004

What does a man's car say about his sex life? Is horsepower just compensation for a lack of prowess between the sheets? According to a German car magazine, the choice of automobile reveals more than just a man's salary.

Cars and sex -- they undoubtedly go together, and not just on the glossy covers of mechanic's magazines and the hoods of Formula One cars. According to the debut edition of the German "Men's Car" magazine, the type of automobile a man drives, says a lot about his sex life.

A survey of 2,253 drivers between the ages of 20 and 50 showed that men who drove BMWs had sex more frequently than drivers of other cars. The high-powered car owners had sex on average 2.2 times per week -- at least that's what they told the interviewer.

Drivers of Audis tied for second place with the BMW subsidiary Mini at 2.1 times per week. More laid back were the drivers of Japanese and Korean imports (1.8 and 1.5 times respectively.) The driver of the people's car, Volkswagen, aims for middle field with 1.9 times, just slightly behind the Italian and French lovers.

Forget horsepower and luxury

The traditional Mercedes driver must be impressing the ladies with his checkbook: At 1.6 times per week, sitting behind the wheel of a luxury vehicle doesn't seem to do much else. But at least he's not driving a Porsche.

The sports car from Stuttgart is hardly a guarantee for frequent sex, "Men's Car" reported. At 1.4 times per week, Porsche drivers came in last place, far behind the safety-minded Volvo driver. The surprising statistic could owe to the fact that the men sitting behind the steering wheel of the high-caliber engine tend to be older and have left their wild years behind them.

Or maybe once a man has reached the Porsche-owning status, he's also learned to tell the truth.
