Biresh Banerjee

My favorite job ever was selling vegetables in a London shop. There, I really loved talking to customers. A bit like journalism – listening to people, their needs and serving them as best as one can.

Born in:
Punjab, India

Languages:
Hindi, English, Bengali, some German

Degrees/Journalistic experience:
BA (Hons.) Journalism from Delhi University, MA Media Management from the University of Westminster. I’ve worked as a reporter in both print and TV media and as a TV Producer and Anchor.

With DW since:
2015

Favorite quote:
“Sometimes you’ve just got to jump off that bridge and build your wings on the way down.”

My personal hero:
The Composer in the Composition room of The Pioneer in Delhi who lived in one of the worst places in the city, earned a pittance, but always came to work on time, smartly dressed and did his job well; without a whimper of complaint or loss of focus.

What do I strive to be as a journalist?
A conversationalist.

My 7 favorite dishes (7 isn’t enough!)

  1. Luchi aloo
  2. Aloo gobi
  3. Paper Masala dosa
  4. Lanzhou hand pulled noodle soup
  5. Peking duck and soup
  6. Thai papaya salad
  7. Full English breakfast
