The European Union has pledged urgent assistance and relief supplies for the Philippines in the aftermath of the typhoon. The first aid shipment from Germany has already left Frankfurt airport.
Over two dozen people have died and widespread damage reported as the monster Typhoon Mangkhut crashed into the northern Philippines coast and Taiwan. The storm is also expected to hit Hong Kong and southern China.
Hong Kong and Macau are battening down the hatches as the super typhoon hits southern China. Mangkhut left at least 64 people dead in the Philippines, as it smashed property, tore down power lines, and caused landslides.
Climate advocacy group "350" has organized international protests to coincide with UN talks in Bangkok. American delegates have reportedly been stonewalling climate talks despite withdrawing from the landmark Paris deal.
Officials in the Philippines are preparing for evacuations as Typhoon Nina approaches the northern part of the country. The storm is expected to make landfall on Christmas Day.
